Duo in hunt for striker.
Tottenham and Liverpool are among the Premier League clubs to have enquired about prolific Burnley striker Charlie Austin, fanatix has learnt.
Austin has been in stunning form for the Championship outfit this season, bagging 18 goals in 20 matches despite struggling Burnley’s indifferent form.
Although the 23-year-old found the net just once in his last six games, fanatix understands that up to six Premier League clubs, including both Spurs and Liverpool, are tracking Austin and could move for him in January.
Burnely will demand a fee in excess of the £7m Southampton paid for Jay Rodriguez in the summer but it is thought that with the Lancashire club unlikely to secure promotion, Austin will demand a move if a top-flight outfit comes calling.
Liverpool are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements, so much so that midfielder Jonjo Shelvey led the line in Sunday’s 3-2 win at West Ham, in the absence of the injured Luis Suarez.
Spurs too are short of strikers, with just two recognised centre-forwards in Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor currently on the books at White Hart Lane.
It is understood that Southampton and Sunderland are among the other teams to have enquired about the centre-forward.
Austin joined Burnley from Swindon Town in 2010 and has scored 34 times in 65 appearances for the Clarets.
