Musacchio is a transfer target for the Premier League duo.
Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio has emerged as a transfer target for both Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, according to talkSPORT.
The Argentine has been impressing in La Liga this season since his side’s return to the Spanish top flight and has also attracted interest from Barcelona and Fiorentina.
With the Red Devils looking to begin an overhaul of their squad at the end of this campaign after a disappointing first year in charge for manager David Moyes, defence could be a good place to start.

Club captain Nemanja Vidic has already agreed a free transfer to Inter Milan at the end of this term, whilst Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand are expected to follow the Serb out of the club.
This means defensive recruitment is a priority for Moyes and with Musacchio still only 23-years-old, could be the ideal long-term signing.
As for their rivals the Reds, they appear to have an abundance of options in central defence, although youngster Tiago Ilori has failed to impress and Daniel Agger is linked with a move away from Anfield.
Musacchio meanwhile has enjoyed a steady rise to stardom, which started way back in 2006/07 when the centre-back made his first appearance for boyhood club River Plate aged just 16.
After impressing in Argentina the defender was snapped up by Villarreal in 2009, before making his first team bow in 2010 and having played 168 times for the club in all competitions since.
Musacchio has the ability to also operate at right-back or in defensive midfield and has two caps for the Argentinian national side.
