Tottenham-bound star admits to Villas-Boas admiration.
Lewis Holtby has revealed he snubbed interest from Arsene Wenger because he believes Andre Villas Boas to be an “insanely good” manager.
The 22-year-old Schalke midfielder has agreed a £67,000-a-week deal to move to Tottenham in the summer.
With many asking why he preferred White Hart Lane to Champions League football he said: “[Tottenham] are not a small club and have an insanely good manager.”

Here at fanatix towers, we’re big fans of the Daily Mirror, who provide us with a hefty chunk of juicy transfer gossip every day.
But this really does appear to be journalism at its most sloppy.
While Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger did admit his admiration for Holtby, there is nothing in the article that seriously suggests the Gunners ever offered the 22-year-old a contract. In fact, Holtby has revealed that he never seriously considered any offers, except those from Schalke and Spurs.
The article also seems to suggest that by choosing Spurs, Holtby has sacrificed the chance to continue playing in the Champions League, ignoring the fact that the German international is set to move at the END of the current campaign and, presently, Spurs are well-placed to be in Europe’s elite competition again next season.
That said, there has been some suggestion that Holtby could make an early switch to White Hart Lane this month, with Schalke’s general manager Horst Heldt admitting that the Bundesliga giants would consider a small offer from Tottenham, provided the Londoners move swiftly.
Give that Emmanuel Adebayor is set to miss six matches at the African Cup of Nations, bringing in Holtby early could well provide the ‘insanely good’ Andre Villas-Boas with more options, particularly as the youngster can play in the ‘hole’ behind a front man when needed.
Whenever Holtby does join Spurs, he is unlikely to be popular with the Arsenal faithful but there appears to be no serious indication, other than media speculation, that he ever had the choice between the Emirates Stadium and White Hart Lane.
