19 year-old Laura Robson has reached the second week of Wimbledon, meaning that for the first time in forty years, Great Britain has a player in the fourth round on both men’s and women’s sides of the draw.
Not since 1973, when 81 top male players withdrew from the tournament in protest at the suspension of Nikola Pilic, have the home nation had men’s and women’s players in the second week of their own Grand Slam, and so in this golden age of tennis, the achievement of both Robson and Andy Murray cannot be understated.
Robson takes on a similarly aggressive player in Kaia Kanepi who hits plenty of winners, but can be erratic.
Kanepi also has a propensity to struggle mentally in high pressure scenarios, meaning that like against Marina Erakovic in the previous round, Robson will know that she must not panic even if she falls behind.
The winner of this match will face the winner of Serena Williams and Sabine Lisicki in the quarter finals.
