England veteran set to end his long stay in west London.
Chelsea midfield player Frank Lampard has moved a step closer to ending his illustrious career at Stamford Bridge, say the Evening Standard.
The England international is currently in talks with the Los Angeles Galaxy about joining the Major League Soccer outfit next season.
The 34-year-old has been told by the West Londoners that they will definitely not be renewing his current contract, which expires this summer, and that he is free to talk with other interested clubs in the January transfer window.
And as such, the veteran is mulling over the Galaxy’s £4 million-a-year deal offer which would make him one of the highest paid player’s in the league on an equivalent salary to that which former England captain David Beckham earned during his time with the club.
In fact, Lampard would be a direct replacement in midfield for his compatriot, something manager Bruce Arena touched on when he recently said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if over the next week or so, we’re going to have some kind of decision we’re going to make with a Designated Player.”
And when pushed specifically on whether that new arrival would be Lampard, Arena said: “We wouldn’t rule that out. It’s always a possibility.”
