England attacker may no longer be at Old Trafford next season.
Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov thinks that the Gunners should try and sign unsettled Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney this summer, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The England international has been the subject of intense speculation of late linking the player with a big-money move away from Old Trafford this summer after it had been revealed that Rooney asked previous Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson for a transfer away from the north west.
And despite United refusing to sanction such a move, there are still grave doubts about the 27-year-old’s future with the Premier League champions, despite the fact that the striker has netted an impressive 197 goals in only 400 appearances in all competitions for United since joining the club from Everton for £25.6 million in Aug 2004.
As a result Usmanov, who owns almost 30 per cent of the north London club, told CNBC: “He is a great player and [joining Arsenal] would be great for Rooney, and Arsenal too.”
