Ozil has been with the German national team for the past 10 days, helping the country to back-to-back victories in their World Cup qualifiers.
Now the 24-year-old has spoken to the English press for the first time and explains why the attacking midfielder chose to come to the Emirates Stadium.
“It feels great, I feel very good here. I’m sure the boss will improve me and I’m proud to be part of the team,” Ozil was quoted on the club’s Twitter page.
“Of course [we can challenge for the title]. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“Many young players came here and got better, and became some of the best players in the world.
“I’ve watched a lot of Premier League games, of course it’s very physical but this is a man’s sport.
“When I talked to Arsene on the phone he was full of respect and as a player I need the respect.
“I am a Gunner!”
