Ozil has been with the German national team for the past 10 days, helping the country to back-to-back victories in their World Cup qualifiers.
Now the 24-year-old has spoken to the English press for the first time and explains why the attacking midfielder chose to come to the Emirates Stadium.
“It feels great, I feel very good here. I’m sure the boss will improve me and I’m proud to be part of the team,” Ozil was quoted on the club’s Twitter page.
“Of course [we can challenge for the title]. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“Many young players came here and got better, and became some of the best players in the world.
“I’ve watched a lot of Premier League games, of course it’s very physical but this is a man’s sport.
“When I talked to Arsene on the phone he was full of respect and as a player I need the respect.
“I am a Gunner!”

Ozil is likely to be involved in the north London club’s next match on Saturday, when the side travel to the north east to take on Sunderland in the Premier League.
Team-mate Aaron Ramsey has also expressed the excitement of the Germany international having joined the team.
Good to be back at Arsenal today. Decent morning of training with a certain new player!
