The Argentinian has been linked with a move to north London for some time and a club record £22m move for the 25-year-old is set to be finalised in the near future.
It would be a bold move for the Gunners who are proud of their financial stability and having never spent more than £20m on a new player.
Yet eight consecutive seasons without a trophy and only narrowly making it into the Champions League this year by one point ahead of rivals Tottenham, fans at the Emirates have been calling for some big names at the club.
With pressure mounting manager Arsene Wenger has been given a hefty £70m transfer budget to spend this summer and the Frenchman looks ready to splash out just under a third of that on Higuain.
Arsenal lacked firepower up-front in 2012/13, with Theo Walcott top scoring in the league with a fairly modest 14 goals and new signing Olivier Giroud failing to truly impress during his first season at the club.
However, in Higuain Wenger should have no such worries as despite being on the periphery of the Madrid team this season, the Argentine still managed to score 16 league goals in 28 appearances in La Liga.
The poacher has also netted 17 times for his country having earned 31 caps for Argentina to date.
Watch this amazing volley by Higuain against Levante.
