Gunners could pip Napoli to the signing of Argentinian ace…
Gonzalo Higuain has asked Napoli for 48 hours to consider their offer, which gives Arsenal a chance to swoop for the striker, reports The Daily Mirror.
Real Madrid have upped their asking price for Higuain from £24m to £32m, and are keen on taking advantage of Napoli’s financial clout following the £55m sale of Edinson Cavani.
The Italian side have already completed a deal for Real Madrid’s Spanish defender Raul Albiol, and the club is also close to tying up deals for Pepe Reina and Leandro Damiao.
As of yet, Arsenal have been unwilling to up their bid for the striker, who has scored 122 goals in 266 appearances for the Spanish giants. Higuain would prefer a move to London however, and has asked Napoli for time to think over the potential move.
Arsenal may take the hit, and up their bid – as no deal for a world class striker has been completed yet this summer, despite numerous murmurings of deals for Luis Suarez or Wayne Rooney. With the start of the season fast approaching, this may be Arsenal’s only realistic chance of securing the top quality forward they so desire.
In what could turn into a transfer merry-go-round, Higuain departing Madrid to either Arsenal or Napoli will free up a space in the Spanish giants’ squad. This could trigger an aggressive move for Liverpool’s want away forward Luis Suarez, who has interested the club all summer. Alternatively, if Arsenal missed out on Higuain, this could force them into a huge money offer for Suarez too.
