The Geelong Cats have announced the signing of Irishman Padraig Lucey as a category B rookie.
After appearing on reality television program The Recruit, the 204cm ruckman joins the Cats in an attempt to boost the club’s injury-prone ruck stocks.
“I was fortunate enough to get the chance to go on the TV show called The Recruit,” he said.
“I got to the end of that and crossed paths with Stephen Wells and was fortunate enough to get a contract to Geelong.
“When I initially met him (Stephen Wells) there wasn’t much talk about coming to Geelong, it was just have a trial.
“Once I got down here it just felt right. Everyone was really friendly, I just felt right at home and it felt like a team I could really fit into.”
The 21-year-old played gaelic football and basketball in his native Ireland and most recently worked as a pool lifeguard.
Lucey also played for the European Legion against the All-Australian under-18’s in 2013.
