Geelong are now considering its next move after midfielder Allen Christensen informed the club of his desire to be traded to a Queensland club.
The Cats released a statement on Wednesday acknowledging that the 23-year-old had asked for a move elsewhere due to “non-footballing reasons.”
“The club is considering its position in relation to Allen’s request,” the statement said.
Christensen has played 65 games for Geelong since being taken at pick no.40 in the 2009 national draft.
The player’s management released a statement confirming his desire to leave the Cats.
“It is (a) decision taken purely for personal reasons,” Christensen’s management said in the statement.
“He simply feels that at 23 he wants a fresh start to his football elsewhere.”
Christensen has struggled with an ongoing back injury and played just eight games in 2014 after returning from surgery.
