Cottagers boss Martin Jol is a fan of Huddlestone, who he worked with during his spell in charge at White Hart Lane, and it is understood the West Londoners contacted Spurs earlier this month about signing the 26-year-old.
Huddlestone is one of Tottenham’s longest serving players and has made over 150 appearances for the club since arriving from Pride Park in 2006.
Tottenham were prepared to let the pass-master leave the club temporarily but called off the deal after Brazilian enforcer Sandro was ruled out for the season following knee surgery.
But Huddlestone’s move to Craven Cottage is now back on, prompting speculation that Spurs are lining-up a midfield arrival ahead of Thursday’s 11pm transfer deadline.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas attempted to loan out Huddlestone to Stoke in the summer but a deal fell through and the stylish midfielder, once described as a ‘quarterback’ by Harry Redknapp, has gone to to start six Premier League matches for the high-flying North London outfit.
But with German playmaker Lewis Holtby already on board and Spurs reportedly prepared to meet the £3.5m release-clause of West Ham’s Mohamed Diame, Huddlestone could be set to link up with former boss Jol once again.
