Ravel Morrison shows his unbelievable football ignorance…
West Ham United midfielder Ravel Morrison had never heard of England legend Paul Gascoigne when he was compared to him by his former Birmingham boss, reports the Mirror.
Morrison produced a scintillating display for the Hammers during their 3-0 victory over Tottenham last weekend, and bagged a wonderful goal to cap it off. His performance reportedly alerted Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who could be keen to snap up the former Manchester United prodigy.
Last term though, Morrison was shipped out on loan to Championship side Birmingham City, after Irons boss Sam Allardyce deemed him too immature for Premier League football.
Birmingham boss Lee Clark recognised his talent, but was amazed when he discovered the wonderkid had never heard of England legend Paul Gascoigne.
When Clark told Morrison he could be the next Gazza, he replied: “Who’s Gazza?”
“When I told him he was a modern-day Gazza, Ravel was not being disrespectful with that reply,” said Clark, the former Newcastle United and Fulham star.
“It’s just that as a teenager at the time he was a bit young to know all about Gazza’s achievements.
Morrison performed well for England Under-21s against San Marino on Friday, and comparisons between himself and Paul Gascoigne are getting louder. Like Gazza, Morrison has been blessed with unbelievable talent, but has struggled with the off the field problems and controversies.
It seems as though Allardyce has finally started to get the best out of the enigmatic playmaker though, and if nurtured properly, West Ham could have a real Premier League star on their hands.
