Anelka is set to make West Brom his sixth English club.
Ex-Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City striker Nicolas Anelka is at West Bromwich Albion undergoing a medical ahead of his free transfer to the Baggies, reports Sky Sports.
The Birmingham outfit have shown interest in the Frenchman since the forward ended a six-month spell at Serie A champions Juventus and was out-of-contract.
Now West Brom manager Steve Clarke wants to resume relations with Anelka – having worked with the 34-year-old for a year at the Blues – by bringing the retired France international to the Hawthorns to bolster the side’s attack.
The club needed to find a new source of goals following the departure of Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge, following an extremely successful loan spell in the Midlands.
Lukaku scored 17 Premier League goals for the Baggies and Clarke has also been eyeing up another former Chelsea forward in Salomon Kalou and a current one in Demba Ba, to fill the void left by the Belgian.
Anelka certainly has the credentials in front of goal, having scored 124 times in the Premier League for five different clubs and may find a return to England welcoming, after an unhappy 12 months in China with Shanghai Shenhua.
The striker has had a long and varied career that has seen the ex-Gunner play in six different countries with 10 teams since rising to prominence at Paris Saint-Germain.
Along with the Parisians Anelka has also plied his trade at Turkish side Fenerbahce, Bolton Wanderers and Real Madrid – having nearly £120m spent on the Frenchman in transfer fees along the way.
