Tottenham Hotspur are clear of rivals Chelsea in the Premier League table ahead of their London derby at White Hart Lane tomorrow, and the Soccer Saturday panel are tipping it to stay that way.
Former Arsenal players Paul Merson and Charlie Nicolas agreed with Liverpool legend Phil Thompson and Southampton icon Matt Le Tissier that Spurs will finish above the champions in the final standings.
Chelsea’s worst start to a league campaign in 37 years leaves them 10 points behind Tottenham, who are unbeaten in 12 matches since the opening day and only four points adrift of leaders Leicester City.
Even Jose Mourinho has indicated that Spurs may not be catchable, only 13 games into the season, telling Sky Sports that Tottenham are title contenders and his side mere top-four hopefuls.
The Special One may simply be trying to lower expectations of a miraculous recovery around Stamford Bridge, although defeat would leave them with a 13-point deficit which could be too much to make up.
Spurs have finished above the Blues just once in the last 20 years – when they made it into the top four in 2011-12 but were denied their Champions League place courtesy of Chelsea winning the competition.
