Manchester City are facing a huge decision this summer after Sergio Aguero’s departure from the club.
How to replace the legendary Argentine? It will undoubtedly be one of the most challenging tasks of Pep Guardiola’s career so far, even if City are blessed with plenty of money to spend on the world’s biggest names.
There will be major hurdles to overcome, however, as we look at five potential options for City to come in up front.
Some big names are being linked, as you’d expect, but it’s hard to pick the most likely option out of all of these. We certainly wouldn’t bet on it just yet, with a spin at some wolf casino games perhaps a better way to try and win big.
Here’s our take on five potential Aguero replacements for City…
Erling Haaland
The name on everyone’s lips at the moment, Erling Haaland has been linked strongly with Guardiola’s side, particularly in the wake of the news of Aguero’s exit.
The only problem is Borussia Dortmund will ask for HUGE money for the in-form Norway international, and the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid are also all sure to be in for him.
There’s also the issue of Guardiola not getting on at all well with his agent Mino Raiola…
Harry Kane
One of the finest strikers in the world for a number of years now, Harry Kane makes sense as an ideal target for City.
However, it’s claimed that Tottenham are absolutely determined not to sell their star player to a Premier League rival.
Given that the England international’s Spurs contract runs until 2024, they’re also under no pressure to let him go this summer.
Romelu Lukaku
A player back to his best in Serie A, Romelu Lukaku has been a joy to watch for Inter Milan, and it’s attracted talk of a possible return to the Premier League with Man City.
The Belgium international is also attracting interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid, however, so this is another top talent City are by no means guaranteed to get their hands on.
Lukaku may well also feel unsure about returning to England after his difficult spell with City’s rivals Manchester United.
Kylian Mbappe
Like Haaland, Kylian Mbappe is an elite young talent who will have all the big clubs looking at him, especially as he heads towards the final year of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
Surprisingly, however, City are reportedly not pursuing the Frenchman as they fear he’d mess up their wage structure and disrupt the harmony in the Etihad Stadium dressing room.
Mbappe has also been strongly linked with Liverpool and Real Madrid, and he’s hinted strongly at a desire to move to Anfield in particular, so City might just not be for him.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Finally, could this be a move worth considering for City as something of a last resort?
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hasn’t had the best of seasons for Arsenal, but he’s playing in a struggling side and we all know what he’s capable of when he’s at his best.
Imagine how many goals the Gabon international could score with the amount of chances this City side creates – a move surely worth considering if the other big names on this list end up going somewhere else?
