There are bound to be defenses that will improve, and at the same time there are bound to be teams that will decline in their defensive performances.
There were teams such as the Denver Broncos who greatly regressed defensively, and there were teams such as the Seattle Seahawks who dominated in that area.
While there are teams who are bound to improve their defensive play, there are also teams who are bound to regress defensively.
Here are five teams whose defenses will regress.
5. Seattle Seahawks
This is not to say that the Seahawks defense will become bad, but it will be nearly impossible for them to repeat what they did last season. Their cornerback depth is not as strong since Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond departed. While Richard Sherman is the best cornerback in the NFL and Byron Maxwell is a capable starter, there will be more pressure on their shoulders, and opposing offenses will definitely be studying the defense extra hard. While the Seahawks defense is here to stay, don’t expect it to produce a season that ranks in the all-time great defenses again.
4. Carolina Panthers
Like the Seahawks, the Panthers have a great defense, but it will be difficult to finish second in the NFL again. The front seven performed nearly flawless, but the secondary is still questionable. Captain Munnerlyn left for the Minnesota Vikings, so their cornerback depth will be thinner. Plus, Greg Hardy has been a distraction for the defense with his assault charges. While the Panthers will still have one of the best defenses in the NFL, repeating last season’s production will be hard.
