Reds should complete the deal by the end of the week.
Liverpool have moved a step closer to bringing Sevilla midfield player Luis Alberto Romero to Anfield this summer, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.
The Reds have been monitoring the highly rated Spain Under-21 international all season long with a view to signing the 20-year-old when the transfer window reopens on July 1.
However, the Merseyside giants first needed to wait to see if Liga champions FC Barcelona would be taking up an option to sign the attacking midfield player for next season themselves after Alberto spent the whole of the 2012-13 campaign out on loan with the Catalans’ B side.
But, despite having first refusal on the player Barca have decided against bringing Alberto to Camp Nou, and so paving the way now for Rodgers to make his own move for the Spaniard, who made 38 appearances for the Barcelona B team last season, scoring an impressive 11 goals in the process.
And it is expected that a deal for Alberto to join Liverpool will be agreed with his club within the next 48 hours.
