Ahead of the start of the new season, fanatix gives you five fantasy football players to snap up, and five to avoid like the plague!
Before you all pick your fantasy football teams ahead of the new season, make sure you take a look at our ‘five players to snap up’, and our ‘five players to avoid’!
Five Players to snap up:
Iago Aspas – Liverpool
Scored 12 goals and assisted seven in La Liga last year, and has already scored three during pre-season for his new club. The feisty performer will not break the bank, and could rack up points turning out for Brendan Rodgers’ exciting Reds team.
Wilfried Bony – Swansea
Bagged an incredible 31 times in Holland last season, and is bound to be the figurehead of Swansea’s new look attack. With the guile of Pablo and Michu supplying him, Bony is bound to score goals in England, too.
Seamus Coleman – Everton
With five, the Irish man got more assists than any defender in the league last year. Martinez has said he is impressed this season with the 24-year-old, who is all set to be used in a new attacking role as a wing-back.
Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea
The rock-solid Serbian is sure to start next season under Mourinho, who loves no-nonsense physical players at the back. Ivanovic was the top scoring defender in the Premier League last year.
Frank Lampard – Chelsea
Every fantasy football fan knows you should fill your team with penalty takers, and Chelsea were awarded nine last season! Mourinho loved Lampard during his first stint, and will no doubt be happy to use the ageing midfielder this season.
Five players to avoid:
Danny Welbeck – Manchester United
One goal scored in 27 league appearances. Despite his talent, it’s fair to say that Welbeck is unlikely to be a big points scorer this season.
Jesus Navas
Plays high up on the right of the field, but failed to score a single league goal for Sevilla last term, and only provided five assists. With City’s probable rotation policy, you should avoid Navas like the plague!
Steve Sidwell
Received more cards than anyone in the league last term earning himself seven yellows and two reds with a series of reckless tackles for Fulham. Cards mean minus points in fantasy football – so stay away from Sidwell!
Brad Guzan – Aston Villa
The American stopper is highly rated, but only relegated duo Wigan and Reading conceded more goals than Aston Villa last term.
Thomas Vermaelen – Arsenal
No one in the Premier League made more defensive errors than the Arsenal man last year, three of which directly led to goals. With Koscielny and Metresacker potentially starting ahead of him, the Belgian, once rated as one of the best centre-halves in the league, may not get much playing time either.
