Everton host Chelsea later this afternoon, as Jose Mourinho’s new-look team face a difficult challenge at Goodison Park, where the Toffee’s are more than capable of causing an upset.
Former Blues’ striker Samuel Eto’o could make his Everton debut, while Romelu Lukaku is also likely to feature against his former club after recovering from an injury sustained against Arsenal. Steven Pienaar is definitely out with a groin problem.
Both of the home side’s front pair will be eager to prove themselves against the club that cast them aside, with the Stamford Bridge side deeming them too old (Eto’o), and too raw (Lukaku) to make a significant contribution.
Diego Costa is nursing a minor hamstring injury suffered in training and is touch-and-go for being fit enough to start. Didier Drogba is on standby, and could get the first competitive start of his second spell with the club. Andre Schurrle is available after overcoming a foot problem.
Everton have won four of their last five Premier League home games against Chelsea. Since the 2009-10 season, only Manchester City have beaten Chelsea more during that period with five victories. Chelsea have failed to score on four of their last six visits to Goodison Park in the league, and lost 1-0 last time out.
Last season the only top-six team to win at Goodison Park was Manchester City. However, Chelsea have won their last four successive Premier League matches away from home, while Everton are yet to win this season.
