Everton host Manchester City at Goodison Park knowing that any result other than an away victory could result in local rivals Liverpool taking a huge step towards the Premier League title.
Man City are the favourites to finish top of the table, as if both they and Liverpool win all their remaining fixtures at their current scoring rate, it will be Manuel Pellegrini’s men that win the title.
There is therefore huge pressure on each side not to drop any points, and if both slip up, then Chelsea could yet steal in and claim top spot.
Everton have been somewhat of a bogey team for Manchester City over the years, having won each of the last four Premier League encounters at Goodison Park, and will be hugely tough opponents – especially given their clear improvement under Roberto Martinez this term.
The Toffees will be missing a few key players though, and that could help Man City’s title charge.
Manchester City loanee Gareth Barry is ineligible, there are doubts over the fitness of Sylvain Distin, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines – three of Everton’s first choice back four – and Bryan Oviedo, Darron Gibson, Steven Pienaar, Kevin Mirallas, Arouna Kone and Lacina Traore remain absent through injury.
Pellegrini is able to call upon David Silva once again after the Spanish playmaker recovered after a minor complaint, while Jesus Navas is the only other doubt. Matija Nastasic remains a longer term absentee.
