Moyes looks to Wigan’s McCarthy to replace out-bound Belgian.
Everton boss David Moyes is ready to raid the DW Stadium in his search for a replacement for Maroune Fellaini, according to The Daily Star.
The Belgian midfielder, famed for afro-hair and imposing physical presence, looks set to leave Goodison after three and a half seasons at the club.
Fellaini has grown into of the most impressive midfielders in the league and a number of top clubs are said to be chasing his signature.
At the front of that pack appears to be Chelsea, who see the gangly Goodison star as the ideal replacement for their ageing midfielder Frank Lampard.
With Fellaini reportedly having a release fee in his contract of around £22 million, Everton may be powerless to prevent his departure and are making contingency plans in case the player were to leave this January.
That has led to Moyes identifying Wigan midfielder James McCarthy as Fellaini’s replacement. The 22 year old has impressed this season, emerging as one of the most promising players in the league.
A fee in the region of £8 million would reportedly be enough for Wigan to consider selling the player who is also apparently admired by Arsenal.
Neither club are particularly keen to do business however. Everton wish to keep Fellaini until the end of the season as they push for a Champions League spot while Wigan are desperate to hold on to McCarthy as they seek to retain their Premier League status.
