The Goodison Park side had been expected to complete a deal for the highly rated Dutch international, but it appears that the deal will now not go through.
The problems appear to be related to the player’s medical which has apparently concerned Everton officials enough that they are asking Twente to renegotiate the deal.
Instead of paying the full fee up front, Everton want to restructure the deal so that it is based upon Fer making a number of appearances for the club.
FC Twente have rejected the proposals and talks have now broken off.
Twente chairman Joop Munsterman said ‘Everton have additional requirements on the method of payment. Here we do not agree. It’s stuck. We don’t play that game at Twente. They can come up with any demand they wish but we’re not playing along with their demands.’
It remains to be seen whether Everton will return with another bid for Fer before the transfer window shuts but judging by Moyes’ words earlier in the week, the Toffees management are big admirers of the player.
‘He’s a really good player’ said the Everton gaffer, ‘He’s someone who we’ve liked for a long time. He’s young and he’s certainly an up-and-coming prospect.’
