England will have the services of their front-line spinner Graeme Swann for their clash against Sri Lanka at The Oval today.
Swann was a noticeable omission from the home side’s line-up that took on Australian at Edgbaston, but he was hardly needed as the Three Lions cruised to a 45-run victory over the beleaguered Champions Trophy champions.
Sri Lanka appear unlikely to play two spinners but could recall Nuwan Kulasekara in place of Shaminda Eranga who, in the circumstances, proved expensive in Cardiff while Senanayake may also replace Rangana Herath.
Eoin Morgan will be desperate for a big score for the English if he gets a chance to bat for a reasonable amount of time in the home side’s innings.
Morgan has been out of touch in the middle-order but there were signs he is slowly finding his touch again, with his 49 off 40 at Trent Bridge, a glimpse of what is capable of if he gets going.
A Sri Lankan player who mirrors Morgan’s fortunes this Champions league campaign is the experienced Mahela Jayawardene.
While he has hardly been dominant to date, Jayawardene does have a good record against England in their own backyard, having scored three one-day international centuries at an average of 42 in 24 games.
England has won 11 of the past 20 games against Sri Lanka when at home since 2009 and England also just have the winning record when the have faced today’s opponents at The Oval, winning 2-1.
