Kiwis still on top as they take guard in their first innings.
New Zealand has maintained its tight grip on the first Test match at Lords as they enter tea on the second day at 54-2 in their first innings.
The visitors trail by 178 runs after dismissing England for just 232 after their tail failed to wag with the last five batsmen contributing just 16 runs to the total, with Jonny Bairstow top-scoring for the hosts with just 41.
Tim Southee was the pick of the Black Cap bowlers at the end of the innings with figures of 4-58 and he was well backed up by Neil Wagner who snared 3-70.
New Zealand began their innings under grey skies with the light being used at Lords for much of the day, and the difficult batting conditions continued as the Kiwis lost early wickets.
Jimmy Anderson dismissed Hamish Rutherford for just four when he received a ball with plenty of movement after pitching short of length around leg stump.
Rutherford tried hard to defend, but was squared up a bit by the movement before the fine edge flew to Alastair Cook does to make it 5-1.
Anderson claimed his second scalp, which was also his 300th Test wicket making him only the fourth Englishman to reach the mark, when his got rid of Peter Fulton for two.
A decent delivery that had Fulton probing slightly just outside the off stump, saw him not get forward enough and the edge found the safe hands of Graeme Swan to make it 7-2.
But New Zealand counter-attacked well, something the English did not do in their innings, as Ross Taylor (32no) and Kane Williamson (11no) showed plenty of intent to take them to tea at 54-2.
