England bowlers put home side on top just before lunch.
England has pressed home its advantage at lunch on the third day of their Test match against New Zealand, after the visitors were 62-2 at the break, still 292 runs behind.
Starting the day at 337-7, England looked a good chance of pressing onwards towards a total close to 400, and maybe, only batting once in the rain-affected clash at Headingley.
However, the New Zealand bowlers did an excellent job in wrapping up the England tail, which again failed to add any runs of significance outside the bat of Graeme Swann (26no).
Matt Prior needed to go on with his innings on the third day, but he was sent packing early for 39 off the bowling of Tim Southee (2-76).
Stuart Broad, Steve Finn and Jimmy Anderson only contributed six runs to the total as the England tail failed to wag to see the home side bowled out for 354.
Trent Boult was again the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand as he continued his excellent series, claiming 5-57 off 22.
In their reply, New Zealand openers Peter Fulton and Hamish Rutherford put on 55 runs for the opening stand before Finn earned a leaning-edge from Fulton (28) to take the return catch.
Just before lunch England struck again when Rutherford was dismissed after he was drawn into a slashing drive by Finn, with a thick edge flying to backward point and the hands of Ian Bell.
Kane Williamson (4no) and Ross Taylor (0no) will resume their innings with the next session vital for both team’s chances of victory in the rain shortened Test.
