There is excitement brewing as the top two ranked ICC one-day sides go head-to-head in the last ever Champions Trophy final as England take on India.
Both teams topped Group A and B respectively and then cruised through the semi-finals in emphatic style against South Africa and Sri Lanka.
England have taken advantage of the home conditions and tore through the Proteas defence in the semis, with an excellent bowling display from James Anderson and James Tredwell resulting in a seven wicket win.
The Indians went one better in their sub-continental clash with rivals Sri Lanka with an eight wicket margin of victory, with batting stars Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli leading their side to triumph.
Dhawan has been in superb form in this competition and comfortably leads the table for most runs having scored two centuries and two half-centuries in his four innings so far.
The stylish opener is strongly supported by Kohli as well as captain MS Dhoni, with Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina making up a formidable top order.
England meanwhile are themselves no pushovers with the bat and Jonathan Trott’s 82 not-out against South Africa silenced his critics.
Ian Bell, Joe Root and skipper Alastair Cook all look in fine form as well and if the rain holds off in Birmingham cricket fans should be treated to a superb contest.
Although India are the favourites due to their No.1 status, home conditions will favour England and a close encounter should be expected.
