Melbourne has snared small forward Jeff Garlett from Carlton during the AFL trade period.
The Demons will hand over picks 61 and 79 for Garlett, while they will also receive the Blues’ pick 83 in return.
Garlett reportedly requested a trade to Melbourne on Tuesday after 107 games and 183 goals for the Blues.
Carlton made it clear the 25-year-old was on the trade table after being involved in a late night altercation in the Melbourne CBD back in August.
Demons football operations manager Josh Mahoney told the club’s website he was “very happy to have Jeff join the club”.
“It was a role that we identified that we wanted to fill during the trade period as a small, crumbing forward,” he said.
“His record prior to last year stacks up with the best small forwards in the competition – he averages nearly two goals and three and a half tackles per game.
“We think that he can be a dangerous option for us in the forward line, working in tandem with Jay Kennedy-Harris and Dean Kent.”
Carlton football manager Andre McKay thanked Garlett for his time at Princes Park.
“Jeff leaves us with our best wishes for the future,” McKay said.
“It was time for him to have a fresh start and we are pleased to have been able to facilitate that by reaching agreement on a trade with Melbourne.
“Securing the fourth round draft pick gives us some options in terms of the remaining trade window and the upcoming AFL draft. We will now look to use that selection to continue improving our list as we look with optimism to season 2015.”
