Arsenal forward leaves Emirates Stadium on loan.
Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh has joined West Ham United on a six month loan deal.
The Moroccan forward will offer cover for Sam Allardyce’s side up front, as they currently have very little in the way of firepower – something the Hammers’ manager is acutely aware of.
“We’ve made an inquiry,” said Allardyce earlier today.
“The situation I have with Andy Carroll being injured and Modibo Maiga going to the African Cup of Nations… at the moment as a striker we have Carlton Cole and that’s it.”
Whilst Chamakh could actually suit West Ham’s playing style rather well, there are plenty of fans of the East London club who are not exactly enamoured with the move.
One of those – rather bizarrely – is the son of one of West Ham’s owners.
Jack Sullivan – on Twitter as jsullivanwhu – is amongst the skeptics.
I am very sorry about this news Chamakh has sign a 6 month loan deal! not my pick
Still, Big Sam seems keen, and it is easy to forget that Chamakh actually had a fine start to his Arsenal career.
For six months he performed very well, but the goals tailed off and he was not much of an impact substitute.
Perhaps West Ham will be the fresh start Chamakh needs.
