On the marquee it might say the Denver Broncos will be traveling to play the New York Giants, but it may as well be a battle between just two.
Brothers Eli and Peyton Manning will square off for the third ‘Manning Bowl’ this Sunday with their teams having different fortunes in week one of the NFL season.
Peyton and the Broncos came storming out of the gate, with the Denver quarterback throwing for seven touchdowns to break all kinds of records as they thumped Baltimore 49-27.
The Giants have been left to re-group after they were on the wrong side of a 36-31 score against Dallas.
Eli and New York will be desperate not to drop to 0-2, with just 12 per cent of teams in NFL history losing both games in the first fortnight of the season going on to play in the Super Bowl.
Despite having the loss chalked next to his name, Eli was in top form in the high-scoring game against the Cowboys with the three-time Pro-Bowler throwing for 450 yards on 27-42 completions with four touchdowns.
Worryingly though for his side’s chances was the three interceptions that also came from the game, however, the Broncos defence is not expected to give the Giants as many headaches as the Cowboys did last week.
In the previous two times the Manning boys have played against each other, it has been older brother Peyton that has come out on top each time.
On September 10 in 2006, Peyton, then with Indianapolis, helped lead the Colts to a 26-21 win over the Giants.
The margin was even more compelling four years later when they met again, as Peyton threw for 20-26 and 255 yards with three touchdowns, as the Colts ran out easy winners 38-14.
While both offenses will be able to put up plenty of points, the deciding factor will be who’s defence stands up to be counted.
