The Cowboys will have plenty to celebrate when free agent pickup Henry Melton joins their last-ranked defense in 2014.The Dallas Morning News has reported that Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Henry Melton has been cleared for practice and will report to the team’s training camp later this week.
Melton, who the Cowboys acquired in free agency in March, has been recovering from an ACL injury that caused him to miss 13 games in 2013. The contract with the Cowboys was for 1-year with incentives, but has an additional 3-year extension that the team can opt-in to.
Melton spent his first four seasons with the Bears after being drafted in the 4th round in the 2009 draft. He recorded 15.5 sacks in his first 3 seasons, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2012. His 6 sacks in 2012 was tied for third in the league among DTs.
The Cowboys hired former Bears defensive coach Rod Marinelli as their defensive coordinator for the 2014 season. Melton will be reunited with his former coach.
The Cowboys report to training camp on Thursday, July 24th. The team was 32nd in the league in yards allowed in 2013.
