Cricket Australia (CA) has trademarked the phrase ’63 not out’ in an attempt to prevent others from cashing in on the death of Phillip Hughes.
Hughes died after being struck in the back of the head by a bouncer whilst playing for South Australia in a Shieffield Shield match against New South Wales.
“Cricket Australia registered the trademark in conjunction with Phillip’s management purely as a defensive registration to prevent others trying to exploit Phillip’s memory,” a CA spokesman told The West Australian.
“There was some evidence of that starting to occur which is why we have taken this action.”
The West Australian report that unlicensed Phillip Hughes memorabilia such as t-shirts and stickers were being sold online.
