The Magpies are eyeing a Round 21 return for its key midfielder.
Collingwood midfielder Dane Swan is likely to miss a month of football after sustaining a foot injury during Collingwood’s 63-point loss to Essendon on Sunday.
The 2011 Brownlow Medallist has suffered a plantar fascia injury in his left foot which is expected to sideline him for up to a month.
The Magpies said in a statement that Swan would train off-feet for 10 days and then hope to resume running with the aim of returning to the field in Round 21.
Collingwood football director Rodney Eade said the injury required rest in the hope that Swan could hit the ground running in the latter part of the season.
“We think ‘Swannie’ can still be a strong contributor this season but in the short term it is clear that he needs to heal, get his foot right and reclaim that burst speed which has been such a feature of his game,” Eade said.
Swan has missed on seven matches in the past eight seasons, with just five of those due to injury.
The loss of Swan is compounded with the news yesterday that former captain Nick Maxwell would retire immediately from the game due to a season-ending ankle injury.
