The Chicago Bears travel to Lambeau Field to face divisional rivals the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night looking to avoid a fifth loss in six games.
Both teams had an opportunity to re-group and re-focus over their bye week, but while the Packers were able to give quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ hamstring additional time to heal, it is unlikely that the Bears were able to solve all of their problems in a week.
Rodgers threw for a season-high 418 yards in the 44-23 loss to the New Orleans Saints last month but he also had two interceptions as his hamstring strain was evidently bothering him.
However, he will hope to have made a full recovery ahead of facing the Bears, with coach Mike McCarthy enjoying an 8-1 record in the last nine meetings with their NFC North rivals.
Green Bay scored 24 unanswered points in the 38-17 road win on September 28, with Rodgers throwing three of his season-high four touchdowns during that run.
Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb were the main beneficiaries of that performance, and it is more than likely that they will have further joy on Sunday night against a Bears defense that has been in all sorts of trouble throughout the season so far.
Chicago (3-5) were blasted by the New England Patriots prior to the bye week with quarterback Jay Cutler continuing his inconsistency with three touchdowns whilst also committing two turnovers. Cutler has 12 of the Bears’ 15 turnovers which include nine of their 11 during the 1-4 stretch.
His turnovers against Green Bay last time out were particularly costly as both led to touchdowns and as a result he fell to 1-9 all-time against the Packers in the regular season with 19 interceptions and 13 scores.
Nevertheless, coach Marc Trestman also has a whole host of injury problems to deal with and so the Bears faithful will be anxious ahead of kick off on Sunday.
