Despite being a fixture for both Arsenal and then Chelsea since breaking on to the scene over a decade ago, Cole has lost his place this season to Spanish fullback Cesar Azpilicueta. Although Azpilicueta is a right-footed right-back, Jose Mourinho has still selected him in favour of Cole since the side’s defeat to Newcastle at the start of November.
In that time, Cole has only made one Premier League appearance, and is reportedly unhappy with his situation – especially with the World Cup in Brazil looming.
Cole is probably still Roy Hodgson’s first choice left-back, but many believe Everton flyer Leighton Baines should get the nod now Cole can’t get in the Chelsea side.
The 33-year-old enjoyed playing under Carlo Ancelotti during the Italian’s two year spell in England, and the brilliant manager wants to take advantage of the fullbacks situation and sign him on a short term deal for the La Liga giants.
Fabio Coentrao is unsettled at the Bernanbeu, and could leave in January, meaning Cole could come in as a direct replacement.
