The west London club are targeting PSG’s Cavani.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has emerged as a shock transfer target for Chelsea, who will sell Romelu Lukaku to fund the deal, according to the Mirror.
Having only joined the French champions in the summer for a club record £55m from Napoli, the Blues would have to offer around that to land the Uruguay international.
Manager Jose Mourinho is keen to add attacking support at Stamford Bridge with current trio of Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres all failing to impress.
Although Lukaku is owned by the west London club and has been in good form during successive loan spells in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion and now Everton, Mourinho and the forward have had a clash of personalities.
Therefore the Portuguese coach would allow the Belgium international to depart Stamford Bridge, with Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur all thought to be interested.
Lukaku would fetch a fee of around £23m and Mourinho would immediately use that money to try and bring Cavani to the club.
The 26-year-old has risen to stardom over the past few years both in Serie A and now Ligue 1 and has scored 20 goals in 29 appearances for PSG this season.
Cavani also has earned 60 caps for the Uruguay national team, netting 20 times and will play a big part at the 2014 World Cup this summer.
There is no doubting the South American’s quality and that is why it’s unlikely the Parisians would want to let the forward leave – especially with Zlatan Ibrahimovic approaching the Swede’s 33rd birthday.
