Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their long pursuit of Inter Milan star Fredy Guarin, reports the Mirror.
The 27-year-old Colombian midfield dynamo looks set to extend his contract with the Serie A giants, ending Chelsea’s hopes of capturing him this summer.
Guarin’s salary will rise to more than £3m per year, thanks to the massive investment from new club president Erik Thorhir,
Chelsea will not be too downhearted, as they managed to secure a deal for Nemanja Matic in January instead. The Serbian has been very impressive in a combative midfield role, so there would probably be no room for Guarin in Chelsea’s starting lineup anyway.
The Blues are expected to target a striker come the summer however, and will likely be ready to spend a large sum to bring in an established European pedigree forward.
