Hatem Ben Arfa has been in excellent form over the past 18 months and the Magpies poor Premier League position could lead the former Marseille man to consider his options in January.
But Chelsea have a lengthy list of young wide attacking talent on their books and, judging by the Blues’ 8-0 win over Aston Villa, there is little need to shell out £12m to bring Ben Arfa to Stamford Bridge.
The likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Victor Moses are already vying for a first-team place in West London and there is quality talent on the bench in the form of Ryan Bertrand, Marko Marin, Lucas Piazon.
Perhaps the club want Ben Arfa to fill the hole left by Liverpool-bound Daniel Sturridge but the England star has started just one game so far this season, so there would appear to little need to replace him.
Alan Pardew has been unable to get his side hitting the heights they attained last term and a number of their big stars could be vulnerable in January, with Demba Ba and Cheick Tiote also likely to be targeted by the Premier League big boys.
Ben Arfa has bounced back from a lengthy injury lay-off to produce a consistent run of form over the past 18 months and Arsenal are also thought to be keen on the forward.
