The Brazilian was widely expected to sign for the London club, but it appears the Ukranian side have swept in at the last minute to beat the London club to the player’s signature.
The midfielder held talks with representatives from Chelsea at the beginning of the month and was presumed ready to complete a deal within the next few days.
Taison even flew to London to watch a game at Stamford Bridge and many believed a deal to have been all but agreed.
But Shakhtar are reporting on their website that Taison has agreed a five year deal with the Ukranian champions after they paid his club Metalist a fee believed to be in the region of £11 million.
Blues fans are likely to be disappointed at the news, having hoped to see Taison link up in the Chelsea midfield with his fellow Brazilian Oscar.
It’s just the latest bad news for Chelsea supporters in a transfer window that has been dominated by the prospect of two of the fan’s favourites, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard, leaving the club for nothing come the end of the season.
