The Belgium number one has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe during his two-and-a-half years on loan at Atletico Madrid, where he has won the Copa del Rey and Europa League.
Jose Mourinho says he expects the 21-year-old to return to Stamford Bridge when his loan spell expires this summer but Courtois has made it clear he will not be happy sitting on bench, with Petr Cech still very much number one at Chelsea.
Atletico have been linked with a permanent swoop for the Belgian and the player’s father hopes the situation could be resolved next month.
“We have a meeting with Chelsea and we will be talking about everything with them,” Thierry Courtois told The Daily Express.
“It is too early to make a definite decision yet. We have to negotiate with Chelsea.
“Thibaut has been doing very well with Atletico but there are still three months of the season to go, and a lot can happen in that time.”
