Toffees hopeful of securing top target.
Chelsea youngster Romelu Lukaku could officially be an Everton player within the next 48 hours, according to the Daily Mail.
The Belgium frontman, 21, is held in very high esteem by Toffees boss Roberto Martinez.
Lukaku spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, netting 16 goals in the Premier League for the Merseysiders.
He cost £18m when Chelsea signed him from Anderlecht three years ago, but his future at Stamford Bridge now looks less bright than it did when he first arrived.
Chelsea recently brought in £32m Spain striker Diego Costa – a deal that seems to have signalled the end of Lukaku’s hopes of becoming a first-team regular in West London.
Everton are due back in England following their pre-season training camp in Austria imminently and securing Lukaku’s signature seems to be top of Martinez’s to-do list.
Lukaku enjoyed his time at Everton and would be happy to return to Goodison Park to help boost the club’s push for Champions League qualification.
