The Spaniard performed brilliantly against Man City at the weekend.
Following Chelsea’s 2-1 Premier League win over Manchester City on Sunday all the talk was about one man – Fernando Torres.
The striker was involved in all aspects of the game for the home side, missing two good opportunities but also setting up Andre Schurrle for the first goal and then bagging the second himself.
It was Torres’ first league strike of the new season and the 29-year-old reveals it is the system under manager Jose Mourinho that has benefited the forward.
“This is a goal of belief,” the Spain international was quoted by ITV..
“I am feeling good and with high confidence, and feeling better in the system we are playing with more space.”
Torres started the match against City on the back of a great mid-week performance against Schalke 04 in the Champions League, when the attacker bagged two goals.
Since making the £50m transfer to Stamford Bridge in January 2011, things have been difficult for the Spaniard despite picking up FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League winners medals.
During that time a return of 39 goals in 142 matches is a fairly modest return, especially when Torres scored 81 times in the same number of games for Liverpool.
Yet if Mourinho can get the best out of the player then there is still a chance of seeing the striker of old, who used to terrorise opposition defences on a regular basis.
