Mourinho brought so much success to Stamford Bridge first time around that it was expected to be more of the same, but nine points from six matches in the Premier League and defeat at home to FC Basel in the Champions League is far from barnstorming.
Yet ahead of their second European match of the season against Steaua Bucharest on Tuesday, stalwart Frank Lampard has said it will take time for the players to take in the manager’s ideas.

The 35-year-old is right when the midfielder says the Blues need to beat Steaua, as anything other than that would leave the west London club in a tricky position when heading to Schalke 04.
It was thought that the side would cruise through what looked like a relatively easy group, but with stars such as Eden Hazard, Samuel Eto’o and Willian under-performing and Juan Mata and David Luiz out-of-favour, this could now well be a tough task.
