Ashley Cole set to sign new at Stamford Bridge.
Ashley Cole has agreed a new deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge, according to BBC Sport.
The contract has not yet been signed but is said to now be a formality after receiving the agreement of all parties involved and is set to be officially confirmed at the beginning of next week.
It is believed that the contract will run until the end of next season.
A number of top clubs had been linked to Cole in recent weeks, including the likes of Real Madrid, PSG and Manchester United, with the England international still widely considered as one of the best left backs in the world, despite being 32 years old.
The defender was expected to leave on a free transfer but the club have moved to secure his services for another year.
A similar outcome is not expected with Frank Lampard however, who it is believed remains on course to leave Stamford Bridge come the summer.
As with Cole, many Chelsea fans would love to see the club retain Lampard’s services and there is some bewilderment among Blues fans as to why the club is not choosing to do so.
Lampard has expressed his desire to stay, even stating his willingness to take a pay cut but the club seems resolute in its insistence on not offering the midfielder a new deal.
