Ranocchia and Luiz could swap clubs to ensure first-team football ahead of the World Cup…
Chelsea want to replace the potentially outgoing David Luiz with Inter Milan’s Italian centre-half Andrea Ranocchia, reports the Express.
Ranocchia is 25-years-old, and has been performing especially consistently for his Serie A club this term, helping them to fifth in the table at this midway point in the season.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has been impressed with the Italian international, and has lined him up to replace Brazilian 26-year-old David Luiz. Barcelona have long been interested in Luiz, and despite his unquestionable talent, Chelsea’s manager has grown tired of his defensive frailties and poor positioning at the back.

In a twist to the saga though, Inter themselves have sounded an interest in Luiz, and could potentially accept a swap deal with Chelsea involving the aforementioned defenders.
Inter would likely have to stump up some cash, too – as Luiz is rated at plus £30m by Barcelona, which could potentially scupper a deal. The Brazilian would no doubt be keen on a move though, as his place in the Brazil side for next summer’s World Cup is no doubt in jeopardy if he spends any more time on the bench.
If Ranocchia were to arrive at Stamford Bridge, he would provide immediate competition to John Terry and Gary Cahill for a first-team place.
