The Blues are also hoping to make a third raid on the Spanish champions this summer, with Jose Mourinho keen on signing Brazilian centre-back Miranda, who would join Diego Costa and Filipe Luis in swapping the Vicente Calderon for Stamford Bridge in this transfer window.
However, Atletico may also finally be set to benefit from their negotiations with Chelsea, as manager Diego Simeone looks to bring Torres back to the club where he started his career, in an attempt to fill the void left by Costa’s departure.
The former Liverpool man has been a big disappointment since his £50m move in 2011, scoring just 20 goals in 110 Premier League appearances for the club, in contrast to his record of 65 goals in fewer games for the Reds.
Torres started his career with Atletico before earning his big move to the Premier League, and could now make an emotional return to his first club in an attempt to get his career back on track.
The Spanish champions hope to pay a little less than Chelsea’s £13m asking price, but they do seem keen to wrap up a return for their former star.
