Ramires has confirmed that the ‘Special One’ has confirmed he is a fan.
Despite being linked with a move away from Chelsea, with Napoli the most likely destination, Ramires has revealed Jose Mourinho has personally contacted him to declare his importance to the team.
The Brazilian has been an important part of the Blues side since his £19.4m switch from Benfica three years ago, but it was thought that Mourinho would be prepared to sell the 26-year-old to new Napoli boss Rafael Benitez – who worked with Ramires during his time in west London in 2012/13.
Yet the Brazil international has declared that no such move will be happening after the Portuguese manager singled him out for talks.
“He called me a few days ago, out of the blue, which was a surprise to me,” the midfielder was quoted in the Mirror.
“We talked a lot and he said a lot of nice things to me, including the fact that he tried to sign me from Benfica when he was at both Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
“Mourinho told me he was very happy to have me at Chelsea. I was very glad to hear that and told him he can count on me.
“He spoke of his excitement too and knowing how much he wanted to work with me, made me even more motivated for next year. I have a feeling that it will be a very good season for us.”
The returning ‘Special One’ – who last managed the club between 2004 and 2007 – is clearly trying to allay the fears of many of his players that have been linked with a move away from the Bridge.
Another important Chelsea star, Juan Mata, is due to have similar talks with Mourinho in the coming days after the Spaniard had been named in a transfer to Barcelona.
Not all have been so lucky however, as Jon Obi Mikel and Fernando Torres still look likely to be shown the door by the 50-year-old.
