Blues ponder move for Bosnian shot stopper.
Chelsea are considering make a shock deadline-day swoop for highly-rated Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The West Londoners’ first-choice shot stopper, Czech Republic international Petr Cech, is currently out of action through injury, meaning that back-up Ross Turnbull is standing in for the experienced keeper at present.
However, the reserve’s performances between the sticks for the Blues of late have been causing great concern at the club, especially the costly mistakes that he made both in Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at League One Brentford, as well as at Reading in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
As a result, Chelsea may now make a last-ditch move to bring the experienced Bosnia international to Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes on Jan 31, although the club know that arch-rivals Manchester United are also keeping close tabs on the Stoke goalkeeper and could rival any move they make for him.
It is understood that the Potteries manager Tony Pulis would not stand in Begovic’s way should either of those two top-flight giants submit a big-money move for the player.
