Blues make offer for Botafogo’s Doria.
Chelsea have made a €9.6m (£8.2m) bid for Botafogo defender Doria, according to Brazilian newspaper Lancenet.
The Brazilian club reportedly have until Friday to respond to the Blues’ offer for the 20-year-old, who captained the Selecao to victory in the Toulon under-20 tournament earlier in the year. Doria was voted player of the tournament and the youngster has been compared to compatriot Thiago Silva of PSG.
Tottenham were linked with a move for the centre-half earlier in the summer but interest from White Hart Lane appears to have cooled, with Spurs prioritising a striker and left-back.
If the move to Chelsea goes ahead, Doria would join a growing Brazilian contingent at Stamford Bridge, with David Luiz, Oscar, Ramires, Lucas Piazon and Wallace already on the Blues’ books.
Speculation on twitter was rife that Chelsea are targeting Doria because Barcelona are set to step up their interest in Luiz.
Sky Italy’s reliable journo Gianluca Di Marzio says David Luiz to Barcelona is pretty serious and that’s the reason why Chelsea want Dória.
