It’s a move that would virtually guarantee Chelsea dominance for years to come. Will the Blues make an offer for Gareth Bale?
As Chelsea continue their pursuit of Barcelona superstar Pedro, one Blues legend believes the club should be more focused on making a move for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.
TalkSPORT reported that former Chelsea star midfielder Craig Burley says his former club should be devoting its resources to pursuing a player with superstar potential like Bale, as opposed to Pedro who he believes won’t be “making a huge impact” for the Blues.
“If Chelsea are going to be signing players and improving the squad, then you have to be a damn good player,” Burley said. “I’m not sure if Pedro is going to improve this Chelsea team. I don’t see him making a huge impact, any more so than Oscar or people like that.
“If you are going to improve this team, you are looking at the calibre of player like Gareth Bale.
“If he is unhappy at Real Madrid, and there’s been talk about it in the last six months, he is going to give you a different dimension.
“Eden Hazard on one side, Bale on the other, and Diego Costa up front. That really improves Chelsea. Pedro? Not really for me.”
Burley made 113 appearances for Chelsea from 1989 to 1997, leading the club to an FA Cup title in 1997 and a second-place finish in 1994.
Pedro has played his entire senior career for Barcelona, winning five La Liga titles, three Champions League titles, three Copa del Ray titles and four Supercopa de Espana titles since his debut in the 2007-08 season. Pedro has recorded double-digit total goals in each of his last six seasons and owns 16 career goals representing Spain’s international team.
